Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Human Resources (AVP, HR) and the Director, Payroll & Benefits, this position provides day-to-day operational services in a wide range of Human Resource functions to help support the department to execute its operational HR plan. Under general direction s/he will work closely with the AVP and the Director on initiatives including employee communications, HR reporting and other special projects to assist in promoting a healthy organizational culture, along with payroll administration and compensation related projects and initiatives. Key areas of responsibility include: HR administration; performance management, support for recruitment and selection initiatives, new hire orientation and onboarding; policy and legislation interpretation and education; development and facilitation of training workshops and presentations; occupational health and safety including employee wellness; and employee recognition. Please note this is a PART-TIME position (30 hrs/week or 4 days/wk).
1. Provide day-to-day operational services to the university in a range of Human Resource functions:
- Performance Management - Ensure annual performance and development plans are completed for every employee
- Reward and Recognition – Monitor, track, and administer awards, and coordinate recognition events/communications.
- Health and Safety - Monitor and keep abreast of changes to H&S Legislation and AODA Compliance; liaise with Redeemer’s JHSC, and maintain and contribute to the Employee Wellness website.
- Employee Relations - Support staff by providing guidance, advice, options and HR solutions to help resolve issues of an employee relations nature that do not require escalation. Assist in development of conflict resolution initiatives and facilitate training/workshops.
- Employee Data - Monitor and track employee data on a regular basis, and develop HR metrics reports on various stats related to Recruitment, Engagement, Turnover, Attendance, Performance, and Professional Development.
- Professional Development (PD) - Administer Redeemer’s Professional Development (PD) program by promoting PD opportunities, coordinating and tracking PD requests, communicating decisions, preparing budget reports, and gathering feedback.
- Policy and Procedures - Keep abreast of changes to employment-related legislation and how it relates to the implementation of policies and processes in an organizational setting.
2 Support Redeemer’s policies, procedures and processes that ensure open communication, alignment with internal values, consistency in application/administration, accountability and desired organizational outcomes:
- Provide support for a healthy organizational culture - assisting the AVP, HR in the development of initiatives that lead to personal excellence; positive employee-employer relationships, high levels of employee morale, motivation and productivity; and a safe, supportive, collaborative and open work environment built on respect, trust and credibility with all employees.
3. Support Redeemer’s Recruitment and Selection efforts:
- Support recruitment, selection, and onboarding practices to ensure that the organization is able to attract, select, engage, recognize and retain high performing/high potential talent to meet the long-term strategic objectives of Redeemer.
4. Work Study Payroll Administration
- communicate enrolment requirements with student employees
- gather payroll documentation (employment contracts and TD1 forms), payroll registration and assignment of tax codes and direct deposit information, position assignment and GL allocation
- respond to payroll inquiries from students and supervisors and resolve payment issues including non-negotiable EFTs.
- provide payroll reporting information to supervisors for budget management/costing purposes.
5. Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) Program
- notifying managers of CSJ timelines, providing program and eligibility information to Managers and job participants
- assisting in the development of job proposals that meet CSJ objectives
6. Vacation Reporting and Absence Tracking
- developing a system for automated vacation reporting by employees
- monitoring vacation reporting, providing statements to employees regarding annual vacation entitlement, distributing vacation scheduling reports halfway through the fiscal year, adjusting vacation entitlements based on FTE changes during the fiscal year and/or based on Job Class reclassifications, and responding to vacation entitlement inquiries
Preferred Skills and Attributes:
- Minimum 3 - 5 years experience in a HR administrative or generalist, client-facing role.
- Legal - Understanding of employment-related legislation case law, and how it relates to the implementation of policy and process in provincially regulated settings.
- Computer - Knowledge of Google Suite (Gmail, Sheets, Slides) with a strong grasp of sheets/excel.
- Demonstrated client service orientation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High level of accuracy and detail orientation.
- Ability to work as an effective team member and efficiently meet required deadlines.
- Demonstrated commitment to privacy and ethical conduct.
- A commitment to workplace safety, enhancing a strong organizational culture of respect.
- Ability to function independently as a Human Resource professional with a high level of access and accountability.
- Multi-tasking, prioritizing and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
- Exhibit a high degree of confidentiality and use of discretion, ethics and tact with sensitive information.
- Previous experience with HR analytics an asset.
- Previous experience using an HRIS an asset.
- Previous payroll experience.
- Understanding of Redeemer University (mission, values, and Reformed Christian identity)
- University degree in a relevant field of study.
- Certified Human Resources Practitioner (CHRP), or working towards the professional designation.
- Membership with Human Resources Professionals Association in good standing.
