As the Director of Facility Maintenance, you will be responsible for the overall management of our facility, ensuring that it is safe, clean, and welcoming for all who visit our church. You will oversee a team of custodial staff, contractors, and volunteers, and you will work closely with church leadership to ensure that the facility is in line with our mission and vision.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance plan for the facility, including routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Oversee custodial staff, contractors, and volunteers to ensure the cleanliness and safety of the facility.
  • Manage budgets and expenses related to facility operations.
  • Ensure compliance with local and provincial regulations related to facility management.
  • Collaborate with church leadership to ensure that the facility supports our mission and vision.
  • Plan and execute facility upgrades and renovations as needed.
  • Manage scheduling and use of the facility by church members and external groups.

 

Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge

The Director will have

  • a love for God and his people;
  • an understanding of, and be in agreement with, the church’s Statement of Faith and Meaningful Membership manual;
  • a passion for the mission and vision of our church;
  • the ability to read plans/blueprints;
  • a basic knowledge of electrical systems;
  • the ability to perform basic electrical repairs, including replacing switches, outlets, ballasts, etc.;
  • a basic knowledge of the operation of HVAC systems;
  • the ability to program thermostats to correspond to the church calendar;
  • a basic knowledge of carpentry and painting;
  • the ability to perform routine repairs to walls, ceilings, etc.;
  • strong leadership and organizational skills;
  • a basic knowledge of Word, Excel, and other similar software as needed;
  • the ability to create work schedules, budgets, and worksheets, and manage the church event calendar;
  • the ability to manage budgets and expenses effectively;
  • the ability to manage custodial staff and volunteers in a way that draws out their best efforts;
  • the ability to work well with other staff;
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • a knowledge of cleaning chemicals and cleaning procedures/techniques; and
  • the physical ability to do event set up such as lifting and moving tables, chairs, etc.

 

Work Week and Benefits 

  • 40 hrs a week with benefits (extended health care, RRSP matching, and professional development opportunities)
  • three weeks of vacation plus time off for church closure between Christmas and New Year’s Day
