Come and share your expertise! We are seeking a law student to serve on the Legal Affairs team as a Legal Research Assistant. This is a chance for you to use your recently acquired skills to support Christian charities across Canada to become as healthy and effective as possible.
ARE YOU THE CANDIDATE WE ARE SEEKING?
Do you have a passion for the mission that Christ gave His Church and are seeking experience working in legal research and writing? Do you want to come work with an experienced lawyer as part of a team that is fundamental to supporting our ministry? If so, we want you to apply!
HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL GET TO DO IN THIS ROLE:
Critically examine documents such as court judgments and tribunal decisions that could impact charities, including tax, corporate, employment and constitutional law. You will check every provincial, territorial and federal legislature for new bills and regulations of relevance. You will also write summaries of relevant decisions and bills.
Create meaningful resources by researching new and emerging topics, drafting, reviewing, and revising content for our Knowledge Base.
Monitor relevant public organizations for position papers, statements, and consultations important to CCCC members, and write helpful summaries.
Scan sources such as academic journals, websites, news outlets for relevant and important papers, stories and opinions. You’ll highlight key takeaways to inform and support both our team and our members.
THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL BE…

You’re going to be doing a lot of reading and writing, and the impact of missing something could be serious. We need to know that you are methodical and always ensure you’re exact.
Personable & Professional
You are always professional and know how best to represent an organization through excellent communication both inside and outside the organization. You have sound judgement and discretion which means your work is done with excellence.
Knowledgeable
You have some experience reading CRA policies, the Income Tax Act, and some understanding of corporate, privacy, employment and constitutional law principles. Much of this role will involve you learning more about these as well, so being able to communicate what you learn is critical.
