Digital Communications Specialist

Position summary:

The Digital Communications Specialist will help better position Open Doors Canada in today’s digital landscape by focusing on website, social media and email communication.


  • Maintain and improve website donation pages and email appeals to make it more user friendly for donors and increase online donations
  • Increase engagement through new prayer initiatives (live social prayer times, text to pray, etc)
  • Create digital name acquisition campaigns to acquire new supporters
  • Implement and develop a social media strategy to build brand awareness
  • Review and maintain current IT systems and support


Website Content Management

  • Responsible for text and image updates to the Open Doors Canada main website (in Wordpress) in French and English
  • Basic maintenance on website (Wordpress)

Donation System Use and Reporting

  • Create and update Luminate donation pages
  • Oversee administration of online giving platform (including Luminate Online, Blackbaud)
  • Obtain and analyze online giving analytics

Social Media

  • Responsible for ODC Social Media Accounts
  • Develop a social media strategy to increase brand awareness and reach younger demographics with the message of the persecuted church
  • Create and post daily on our social media (including Facebook (FB), Twitter (t), Instagram(IG))
  • Obtain and analyze social media analytics
  • Create and post stories (IG, FB) to drive engagement on social
  • Increase our following on social media accounts
  • Including creating paid promotions

Email Marketing

  • Oversee Email Communication
  • Obtain and analyze Email analytics
  • Design and send one email per week. Including:
  • Monthly e-appeal
  • Bimonthly Magazine
  • Monthly Prayer Calendar

Required qualifications


  • Minimum of 5+ years of work experience* in marketing communications, with experience in campaign creation, planning, management and measurement *non-profit organization or ministry experience is preferred
  • Experienced in developing and maintaining marketing strategies to meet organizational and client objectives

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • French is an asset in this position.
  • Basic knowledge of html code (to troubleshoot email or webpage) and simple image editing is also an asset.
  • Must work in Luminate Online and Blackbaud
  • Competency in Microsoft Office and various web-based applications
  • Crossover skills in the areas of design, digital communication, public relations or copywriting are an asset
  • Proven excellent marketing communications skills (both written and verbal)
  • Able to oversee multiple projects competently
  • Highly organized, self-managing and able to meet multiple tight deadlines
  • Be flexible, yet detail-oriented with exceptional prioritization skills
  • Demonstrated aptitude for working as part of a collaborative, creative team
  • Creative and insightful; solution-oriented in attitude and behaviour

  • Ability to travel occasionally within the southwestern Ontario region for vendor meetings and related events


  • Post-secondary degree/diploma is required (marketing or a design-related field is preferred)
