The Position:


Reporting to the Associate Vice-President (AVP), External Relations, the Director of Donor Relations leads the university’s engagement with, and development of the donor stakeholder community. This includes leadership of the Donor Relations department, as well as leadership of the annual planning, execution, and management of the university’s development and fundraising relations and objectives. The Director ensures the major gift portfolio caseloads are maintained and executed, and that donor revenues are properly and legally received, recorded, reported and receipted.  The Director also ensures that the integrity of the CRM is maintained and integrated with other data systems within the university, as well as planning for and executing annual broad-based appeals so that effective donor relations materials are available for the annual fundraising cycle.   Working with the AVP, External Relations, the Director is responsible for enabling the university to achieve annual and strategic fundraising targets that are vital to Redeemer’s financial viability and flourishing. 

In order to discharge these responsibilities in accordance with the objects and purposes of Redeemer University, the Director must have a deep-seated personal faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, be thoroughly and thoughtfully committed to the Vision and Mission of Redeemer University, and be familiar with Redeemer’s support community.  





  • Designs and directs strategies for implementation of special drives and campaigns to meet capital and other financial resource needs.
  • Directs the development and implementation of financial appeals to churches, businesses, members and friends for the university’s Annual Fund
  • Directs the university’s Planned Giving program and cooperates with Christian Stewardship Services (CSS) 
  • Oversees the work of development team members to ensure Monthly Impact Charts (MIC) are developed and relationships are managed effectively. 
  • Work closely with the President, Provost and AVP, External Relations to ensure their MICs are managed effectively. 
  • In collaboration with Marketing and Strategic Relations, is instrumental in leading the establishment, maintenance and growth of programs that build supportive relationships with stakeholders such as donors, investors, alumni, parents, churches, business partners, etc.
  • Directs the development and management of investor relations
  • Ensures compliance of fundraising guidelines and standards as set out by the Canadian Council of Christian Charities. 



  • Advises the Associate Vice-President, External Relations on strategic planning, initiatives, communication, and policies related to our support community and development efforts.
  • Manages multiple staff and an annual Advancement budget of some $500 K.
  • Provides leadership, motivation and guidance to staff and other colleagues.

Preferred Skills and Attributes:

  • Familiarity with Redeemer’s constituencies, and ability to cultivate and expand those relationships.
  • Ability to develop relationships with diverse and “next generation” supporters.
  • Familiarity with fundraising regulations and practices in the non-profit / charitable sector.
  • Demonstrated excellence in public relations and in effectively communicating Redeemer’s vision, mission, and organizational priorities.
  • Ability to lead the planning and management of campaigns or projects.
  • An entrepreneurial, creative disposition to seek or develop new opportunities to enable Redeemer to achieve its mission.
  • Ability to be collegial, open to learning, and to develop effective trusting relationships and a community of care.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 


Other Requirements:

  • Understanding of, and commitment to Redeemer University  (mission, values, and Reformed Christian identity) and ability to articulate its mission effectively and persuasively
  • Participate in communal activity that supports and encourages a university campus environment where the holistic development of all persons embodies Christian principles that advance the mission and Christian character of Redeemer University 



  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree.  
  • Professional designation (e.g. CFRE) in a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of five years experience in a senior development role within the charitable sector or managerial sales role.
  • Experience with CRMs
