Come and share your expertise!  We are seeking a law student to serve on the Legal Affairs team as a Legal Research Assistant for Fall 2022. This is a chance for you to use your recently acquired skills to support Christian charities across Canada to become as healthy and effective as possible.

Do you have a passion for the mission that Christ gave His Church and are seeking experience working in legal research and writing? Do you want to come work with an experienced lawyer as part of a team that is fundamental to supporting our ministry? If so, we want you to apply!

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL GET TO DO IN THIS ROLE:

Critically examine documents such as court & tribunal judgments for charity and religious freedom and charity law decisions. You will check every provincial, territorial and federal legislature for new bills and regulations of relevance You will also write summaries of relevant decisions and bills.

Create meaningful resources by researching new topics and topics of interest, and drafting content for our Knowledge Base.

Monitor relevant public organizations for relevant position papers, statements, consultations, and read and write summaries.

Scan relevant sources such as academic journals, websites, news outlets for relevant and important papers, stories and opinions. You’ll put together summaries of all relevant articles.

Detail Oriented

You’re going to be doing a lot of reading and writing, and the impact of missing something could be serious. We need to know that you are methodical and always ensure you’re exact.

Personable & Professional

You are always professional and know how best to represent an organization through excellent communication both within and outside the organization. You have sound judgement and discretion which means your work is done with excellence.

Knowledgeable

You have some experience reading CRA policies, the Income Tax Act, trust law, and the CCCC Standards. Much of this role will involve you learning more about these as well, so being able to communicate what you learn is critical.

Passionate about charity issues

You are motivated to support Christian ministries and want to help them fulfill their missions. You might have served on a board or volunteered some other way, but you have a heart for service and doing important, meaningful work.

 


 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled as a student studying law in Fall 2022
  • Law student preferred, any year
  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in Political Science or Public Policy
  • Strong academic record
  • 2 years’ work experience in any industry
  • High level of accuracy and clarity with written communication
  • Experience reading and understanding court judgments and legislation preferred
  • Experience working with Christian charities as an employee, professional service provider, or volunteer
  • Strong interest in serving people and solving problems
  • Agreement with CCCC’s Statement of Faith and Community Covenant
