This salaried full-time position is responsible for overseeing all merchandise coming into the shop and being sold. This includes receiving, sorting, pricing, merchandising and sales and is accomplished through teamwork with the staff. The primary focus of the role is to ensure efficient production and a daily retail focus.

The Production Manager directly supervises 3 staff and along with the General Manager form the Management Team in the operation of the shop to ensure teamwork and a desirable working and shopping environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Self-motivated and willing to take initiative while at the same time willing to work as a team with the other staff and volunteers
  • Ability to create an atmosphere of a positive Christian presence within the shop
  • Strong interpersonal skills with people of all ages and backgrounds
  • Willing and able to work with a variety of people in a friendly way
  • Must be strong at multi-tasking, and must excel at coping with conflicting priorities and deadlines
  • Thrives in a fast paced environment
  • Must be extremely organized and a self-starter
  • Strong leadership, organizational and management skills
  • As a retail business – must be willing and able to work a variety of hours including evenings and Saturdays
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and exert 11 to 25 lbs. of force frequently
  • Requires about 6 or more hours of intermittent standing or walking in a standard workday
  • Ability to repeatedly bend or stoop to floor level shelves and able to reach upper shelves with use of a stool or a ladder when necessary
  • Sitting may be required only intermittently and occasionally
  • Intermediate computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, Internet)
  • Healthy balance of patience, humour and energy
  • Heart for justice, active peacemaking and global understanding
  • Valid ‘G’ Ontario driver’s license
  • Police vulnerable sector check (required upon hire)
  • Legally able to work in Canada
  • Ability to make quick and thoughtful decisions

 

Preferred

  • Experience supervising multiple direct reports
  • Experience working with volunteers
  • Experience in retail management setting
  • Experience with streamlining processes for efficiency
  • Awareness of second hand market, retail trends and merchandising


Key Responsibilities

 

Production

  • Oversee all processing of donations from receiving to retail floor
  • Evaluates sales statics, production reports and monitors sales targets
  • Oversees management of seasonal items including garden, sports, Christmas and other seasonal merchandise in storage areas Host after hours groups and tours along with General Manager
  • Manage and maintain a safe and clean workroom
  • Work collaboratively with Retail staff for planning and executing in-store sales, special events, and seasonal displays for all departments and managing electronic batches in POS
  • Maintain supply of priced items to refresh retail space as needed
  • Oversee Silent Auction
  • Oversee MCC rePurpose Centre items

 

Management Team Responsibilities

  • Be proactive in promoting positive public, staff and client relations
  • Responsible for the safe, daily operation of the shop, including in-store special events and sales
  • Responsible for staff and daily operations in General Manager’s absence
  • Supervise, support, coach and evaluate Assistant Managers for Clothing, Furniture and Logistics, Household Goods, Receiving and Production Support
  • Provide supervision and management support to volunteers while providing a fun work atmosphere
  • Ensure health & safety policies and procedures are enforced and supervisors are compliant

 

Other

  • Provide back-up support for other managers in their absence or as needed, including opening and closing
  • Share the news about Care & Share Thrift Shop and the network in the community
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned
  • Participate in MCCO orientations, provincial meetings, Peace Conference and Staff Development Day
  • Participate in a local faith community, being willing to use personal gifts within this community and model nonviolent peacemaking through respectful interaction with others
  • Maintain a high level of integrity, reflecting Christian respect and Christ's unconditional love to those with whom you work, including colleagues, partner agencies, the homeless and marginalized
  • Answer inquiries about MCC from constituency and general public; communicate MCC's values, articulating the importance of MCC's criteria for workers, all of whom serve as representatives of the Mennonite and Be in Christ churches which support MCC
