The Social Enterprise Assistant works closely with the Director of Social Enterprise (SE) to help build the capacity of shop staff to meet the demands of a growing business.  The SE Assistant will provide administrative, research, programmatic, and logistical assistance to the Director of Social Enterprise as well as working closely with others in the department.  The SE Assistant will be a member of the Social Enterprise Resource Team at MCCO.

MCC Ontario has seven (7) vibrant and growing Thrift Shops that provide 30% of MCCO’s annual revenue  --  in addition to the MCC rePurpose Centre and three (3) Associate Thrift Shops.  These shops sell donated items and are managed at the local level through a management team consisting of management staff and volunteer committee members.  Each shop seeks to be a friendly, caring presence in the community, showing value and respect to all. Practicing and promoting faithful stewardship and care for God's creation and raising funds for MCC are also key components to the mission statement of each MCC SE Shop.


 All MCC workers are expected to exhibit a commitment to: a personal Christian faith and discipleship; active church membership; and biblical nonviolent peacemaking.

  • Ability to work in a very busy, complex working environment that includes an open work area
  • Knowledge of program design/ planning, monitoring and evaluation tools
  • Flexibility and resourcefulness in changing priorities to respond to other needs that may arise
  • Police check will be required once hired
  • Must be able to legally work in Canada



  • University degree in a related field
  • Ability to occasionally work non-standard hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Familiarity with MCC / MCCC (MCC Canada) / MCCO (MCC Ontario) and MCCO Thrift


  • Coordinate logistics and provide support
  • Conduct and compile survey reports
  • Prepare draft reports related to MCCO’s strategic planning
  • Prepare and manage monthly calendars and personnel listings
  • Create/compile resource information for SE management teams
  • Ensure current agreements are signed with all Thrift Shop Operations Councils
  • Ensure Best Practices and Operational Guidelines are kept current
  • Ensure Health & Safety regulations are up-to-date
  • Record and distribute minutes, ensuring follow- up on action items and assistance in developing agendas for monthly meetings of the General Managers
  • Research recycling and repurposing opportunities for the department
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive documentation system
  • Fully participate in the MCCO SE Network
  • Social media marketing
  • Second-hand retail marketing
  • Maintaining current systems, files & manuals


  • Act as an ambassador for MCCO SE work
  • Participate in MCCO orientations, provincial meetings, and annual meeting
  • Participate in a local faith community, being willing to use his/her personal gifts within this community and model nonviolent peacemaking through respectful interaction with others
  • Maintain a high level of integrity, reflecting Christian respect and Christ's unconditional love to those with whom you work, including colleagues, partner agencies, the homeless and marginalized
  • Answer inquiries about MCC from constituency and general public; communicate MCC's values, articulating the importance of MCC's criteria for workers, all of whom serve as representatives of the Mennonite and Be in Christ churches which support MCC
