Community Profile

Our church is a worshipping community, enabled by the Holy Spirit, dedicated to Christ’s commission to point people to the Father, to build them up in faith and life, then equip and encourage them to serve.

People:

Millarville Community Church is a Bible-believing body nestled in the foothills of the Rockies. We’re ranchers and business people, builders and contractors, teachers and cowpokes, missionaries and managers. We love to quilt, hunt, fish, hike, motorbike, fix old trucks, meet and drink coffee. We meet to play music and sing, write stories, meet in homes, and visit each other, in sickness and health. We study, think, and pray. We take seriously God’s call to each of us as saints, and strive to find God in all we are and all we do.

History:

With the growth of the Millarville community, local Christians saw opportunity for a second local church and one which represented the variety of the Christian backgrounds in the area. Beginning in September 1983 under the umbrella of the Western Baptist Union, Millarville Community Church (MCC) was established. Within a year the church had moved away from the Baptist oversight to become a non-denominational community church, which continues to this day.

The church met in local community facilities like the Library, Ranchers Hall, and the Millarville School gymnasium. In 2000, 5 acres of land was donated to the church group and in 2004 a temporary facility, the former Elbow Valley Community Hall, was set on the property. In the fall of 2004, the congregation moved into its small building, which held around 70 people. The congregation quickly outgrew the building. In February 2005, a 10-year plan to save and plan for a new building began. That same summer we were gifted of the old South Calgary Full Gospel Church from its location on Macleod Trail in Shawnessy, Calgary. The building was moved to our land. The land was prepared to receive the building. In January 2006 the 48 by 120 foot building arrived on site, at the cost of $100,000. The congregation began to meet in the refurbished building July 2006.

Structure:

As a non-denominational community church we are responsible for our own governance. We also report to the government as a registered church and charity. The Statement of Faith and Constitution describe the responsibility and processes of governance. We maintain a flat leadership structure, empowering others to learn and grow as they take responsibility for their work in our church.

A team of Elders brings spiritual and pastoral oversight, and is charged with developing vision, direction, spiritual development, instruction and care for the general well-being of the body. A Leadership Team of Deacons and Elders ensures ministries are complete and equipped, while stewarding church resources. Each Leadership Team member carries a portfolio of ministry responsibility.

Ministry:

It is our goal to see people enfolded, equipped, encouraged, and empowered to become ministers of the life-giving gospel of Jesus Christ. Ministries take place both within and outside the church as we serve the congregation and local community. As a “community” church we provide a relevant expression of faith in our local community.

We are committed to Missions and are involved in national and international missions, and support those called to missions. We believe in the intrinsic power of God’s Word through the ministry of the Holy Spirit to bring transformation in the believer’s life. Therefore, we emphasize biblical preaching and teaching, offer weekly Bible studies, and support several home groups for smaller gatherings of believers.
